Ahmedabad: Kankaria East underground metro station is now open on the east-west corridor connecting Thaltej and Vastral. This newest metro station is between Apparel Park and Kalpur Railway Station.
“Kankaria East Metro station in the East-West corridor of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project is ready for passenger operations today, March 4, 2024,” Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Ltd said in the newspaper. “Metro train services will come to Kankaria. East station will serve passengers as per its current operating timings from March 5, 2024.”
Metro trains in Ahmedabad currently run at an interval of 12 minutes from 6:20 am to 10:00 pm.
Kankaria East station will facilitate passengers going to Kankaria Lake and there will be adequate pedestrian activity on Sundays and holidays.
Metro train services operate in Ahmedabad from 6:20 am to 10:00 pm, with frequency of 12 minutes (7:00 am to 10:00 pm).
Officials reported that it was the last underground station saved for inauguration. In October 2022, Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) said that Thaltej Gam, Sabarmati and Kankaria East stations will be closed due to the completion of the work.
GMRC inaugurates Kankaria East metro station. Sabarmati station, which carries bullet trains to north India and connects to Ramnagar railway station, is nearing completion and will be opened the next day, officials said.
Officials said CMRS will be called again for inspection after the final work is completed. Officials said the Thaltej Gam station would probably be completed by the end of this year and the second phase of the metro project connecting the city to Gandhinagar would begin.
Passengers will get the facility to go to Kankaria Lake, the famous entertainment place of Ahmedabad, from Kankaria East Metro Station. There will be adequate footfall at the metro station on Sundays and holidays. Kankaria East Metro Station is a good place for those wishing to explore the vibrant attractions nearby.
It is noteworthy that to speed up the work at Kankaria station, sequence method was selected instead of parallel construction. Also, the project team adopted a new method of TBM passthrough without D-wall at Kankaria East Metro Station.
