National Highways Authority of India has included the Regional Ring Road in the pan-India Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-1. Besides connecting multiple districts across Telangana, the RRR will also connect different national highways, including NH 65, NH 44, NH 163, and NH 765.

The construction of this expressway will happen in two phases – north and south. Also, 50% of the project’s cost, including that of the land acquisition will be handled and taken care of by the state government. Besides that, the total estimated cost of the project is Rs. 17,000 crore.

We couldn’t find any insights regarding the project’s deadline yet, believing that NHAI has not been given one yet. The first phase of construction will cost Rs. 9,500 crore and the second phase will cost Rs. 6,480 crore.

3. Nagpur Vijayawada Expressway

The Nagpur Vijayawada Expressway is an under-construction 405-kilometer-long (252 mi) access-controlled expressway connecting the cities of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh and Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. It is being constructed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-I program by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The expressway will go through three states – Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra and connect some of the major cities and towns, including Vijayawada, Khammam, Warangal, Macherial, Asifabad, and Nagpur.

The construction of this expressway will include four lanes, enabling the vehicles to run at a speed of up to 120 km/hr. The estimated deadline for the project is 2027. Not only will the expressway reduce travel time and make connectivity a lot more seamless, but the completion of the project will also reduce congestion by a lot.

The total estimated budget for the project is Rs. 14,666 crore and it is being undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). It is being built under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM).

4. Warangal Metro NEO

Another unique and ongoing megaproject worth highlighting is the Warangal Metro NEO. Warangal Metro Neo is a proposed bus rapid transit (BRT) system to be built in Warangal, Telangana, India. The system will use 25-meter-long electric buses that will run on both elevated and at-grade sections. The buses will be powered by an overhead electrical (OHE) system on the elevated portions and use battery power while operating on the at-grade (road) sections.

As far as the reports go, the project is currently in its planning stage and the detailed project review is currently being assessed by the government. The estimated cost for the entire project is set to be Rs. 1100 crore and while the schedule suggests that it would be completed in three years after the construction starts, there’s no confirmation yet.

The completion of this project will enable people to have a faster and hassle-free commuting system, which is expected to reduce traffic congestion significantly. 

5. Hyderabad Indore Expressway

The Hyderabad Indore Expressway is another approved expressway, which will connect the two major cities in India – Hyderabad and Indore. 

It is an under-construction 713-kilometer-long (443 mi) 4-lane semi-access-controlled expressway connecting Hyderabad, Telangana to Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. It is being constructed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase I program by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

According to the available reports, the expressway will pass through a few major cities, including Hyderabad, Warangal, Nizamabad, Nanded, Akola, Khandwa, and finally Indore. Like the majority of the expressways in India, even this one has proposed 4 lanes wherein the vehicles will be able to play at a maximum speed of 120 km/hr.

Surprisingly, the completion of the metro will cut down the travel down to 20 minutes from the airport to the main city, which is an additional benefit. Also, reports suggest that it will reduce carbon emissions significantly.

7. Telangana Super Thermal Power Project

The Telangana Super Thermal Power Project (TSTPP) is a 4,000 MW coal-fired power plant under construction in Ramagundam, Telangana, India. The project is being developed by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in two phases. The first phase, which is currently under construction, will have a capacity of 1,600 MW (2×800 MW). The second phase, which is still in the planning stage, will add 2,400 MW to the project.

Also, the deadline of the project is believed to be 2028 and will streamline irrigation to around 2 lakh hectares of land in the Wanaparthy, Mahbubnagar, and Nalgonda districts of Telangana.

9. Nagpur Hyderabad Bangalore Expressway

This is a proposed 1,100 km (680 mi) long, six-lane, Greenfield access-controlled expressway, which will connect the third largest city of Maharashtra, Nagpur with the capital of Karnataka, Bengaluru, through Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The completion of this expressway will connect four states – Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka. Also, traveling through this expressway is set to reduce the travel time by 50%, from 24 hours to 12 hours, which is going to be quite impressive.

Construction for this expressway will happen in two phases – from Nagpur to Hyderabad and another from Hyderabad to Bengaluru. The entire project is being looked over by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and has an estimated budget of Rs. 35,000 crore.

The deadline for the project’s completion is set to 2030 but things might change in the future, so that’s something we’d have to look forward to.

10. Hyderabad Pharma City
