Dholera International Airport Company Limited (DIACL) has awarded a construction contract worth Rs 333 crore to Yashnand Engineers & Contractors for the engineering, procurement and construction of Dholera Airport in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The scope of the contract includes the construction of a new integrated passenger terminal building, ATC tower, cargo complex and Environmental Support Services (ESS), with a construction time of 18 months.
It is to be noted that Jodhpur-based Varaha Infra is building the supporting infrastructure of the airport, which includes a 3200 meter runway, taxiways, apron and perimeter road.
Earlier, in June 2022, the Union Cabinet approved the proposal for Phase I development of the new greenfield airport at Dholera, which was to take 48 months and will cost Rs 1,305 crore.
There is a new greenfield airport at Dholera at a distance of 80 km from Ahmedabad.
The initial annual passenger traffic at the new airport is expected to be three lakh and is expected to increase to 23 lakh in 20 years. Operations are expected to begin in 2025-26.
That is why annual cargo traffic is projected to reach 20,000 tonnes by 2025-26, with an increase of 2,73,000 tonnes over the next two decades.
Dholera Airport is expected to become the major cargo hub for passenger and cargo traffic from the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR). This airport will be an additional airport to Ahmedabad and will cater to the surrounding area. A press note from the government says.
