With the rapid establishment of IT hubs and commercial centers around HITEC City and Gachibowli, the construction of the Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge is a strategic initiative to ease traffic bottlenecks. This infrastructure effort aims to enhance road connectivity while balancing the growing passenger demand in the region.
The large central span of 233.85 m is the hallmark of the bridge. It was carefully designed so that any structural intrusion did not harm the ecology of the lake. The bridge emphasizes sustainable development and is linked to environmental conservation. Its extradosed cable-stayed design has a span configuration of 96 m + 233.85 m + 96 m, supported by two sturdy pylons on opposite sides of the lake.
The bridge has a viaduct on one side, consisting of precast segmental concrete (PSC) box girders, each 30 meters long. The deck has a six-lane traffic system, allowing uninterrupted vehicular movement, while there are footpaths on both sides for pedestrians, which are not meant for motorized ones.

- The maximum speed of vehicles is 35 kmph to ensure safety and smooth traffic on the bridge. The bridge carries traffic from Road No. 45 directly onto its span, which has a four-lane elevated corridor.
- The bridge was built in a remarkably short period of 22 months, a blend of innovation and precision. While most of the materials were procured locally, high-performance cables were imported from Germany, reflecting the careful attention to quality. 287 metric tonnes of stay cables, 4,800 metric tonnes of steel, 26,600 cubic metres of concrete and 420 metric tonnes of high-tension strands were used in the construction.
- The 233m long and 25.8 m wide cable-stayed section is supported by 52 stay cables, adding to both its strength and beauty. The approach viaduct and solid ramp extends to 309.8 m to seamlessly integrate the structure into the surrounding road network. Footpaths constructed on each side at a distance of 1.9 m facilitate pedestrian movement.
