In a significant infrastructure push for Bihar, the Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sanctioned the development of a four-lane, access-controlled corridor connecting Patna, Arrah, and Sasaram. Spanning 120.10 kilometers, this project will blend greenfield construction with brownfield upgrades to streamline connectivity across the region.
The corridor, set to be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), comes with a hefty investment of ₹3,712.40 crore. Presently, road travel between these cities is hindered by congestion, with journey times ranging between three to four hours due to heavy vehicular flow.
By integrating 10.6 kilometers of existing highway with newly constructed sections, the project aims to cut down travel time drastically. It will alleviate bottlenecks in crucial areas such as Arrah, Grahini, Piro, Bikramganj, Mokar, and Sasaram, facilitating smoother transit for commuters and commercial transport.
Strategically designed, the corridor will intersect major national highways, including NH-19, NH-319, NH-922, NH-131G, and NH-120, ensuring seamless connectivity to key regions like Patna, Aurangabad, and Kaimur. Additionally, it will enhance accessibility to vital transport hubs, linking two major airports—Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna and the upcoming Bihita airport—alongside four significant railway stations in Sasaram, Arrah, Danapur, and Patna. Furthermore, the project will connect with the Inland Water Terminal in Patna and provide direct access to the Patna Ring Road, expediting both passenger and freight movement.
Once completed, the corridor is expected to serve as a critical economic catalyst, strengthening connectivity between Bihar and neighboring cities such as Lucknow, Ranchi, Patna, and Varanasi. According to official estimates, the project will generate approximately 48 lakh man-days of employment, unlocking new growth opportunities and fostering regional prosperity in and around Patna.
