The Union Ministry has approved the Pune Aurangabad Expressway, After a long discussion. The Pune Aurangabad Expressway Development Project will be constructed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) framework, confirmed Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Officials said that once the expressway becomes operational, the journey from Pune to Aurangabad will be reduced from four to two hours. NHAI has handed over the work of completing the project to Maharashtra Infrastructure Corporation. The target is to take a huge loan of Rs 3 billion from HUDCO (Housing and Urban Development Corporation).

As per the project details, four toll booths will be between Shirur and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. There is also a plan to build a new road between Ahmednagar and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.

About Pune Aurangabad Expressway

Pune Aurangabad Expressway is The upcoming six-lane access-controlled expressway in Maharashtra State. It will be 225 kilometers long and will connect Aurangabad to the industrial hub of Pune. This greenfield corridor will be built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Bharatmala Project. 

As per the plan, the proposed expressway connecting Pune and Aurangabad will reduce the distance between the two cities by two hours. Land acquisition began in December 2022, while the detailed project report (DPR) was being drafted. The Pune Aurangabad Expressway will cover three districts: Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, and Pune, and will pass through five talukas: Bhor, Purandar, Haveli, Daund, Shirur. The route will also pass through a total of 44 villages in these talukas.
