To bolster infrastructure and streamline logistics, the Union Cabinet has sanctioned the construction of a six-lane, access-controlled greenfield highway connecting Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) to Chowk in Maharashtra.
This ambitious project, with an investment of ₹4,500.62 crore, aims to enhance connectivity between the port and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, thereby facilitating efficient transportation and economic growth.
The approved highway spans approximately 29.219 kilometers, originating from JNPA Port (Pagote) and culminating at Chowk. This corridor is poised to serve as a critical link, reducing travel time and congestion, and promoting seamless movement of goods and passengers.
The project will be developed on a Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) basis, engaging private sector participation to ensure timely completion and operational efficiency.
By providing a direct and efficient route between JNPA and key inland destinations, the highway is expected to significantly enhance logistics efficiency, reduce transportation costs, and boost trade activities in the region.
The construction phase is anticipated to generate substantial employment opportunities, contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
As a greenfield project, comprehensive environmental assessments will be conducted to mitigate potential ecological impacts, ensuring sustainable development practices are adhered to throughout the project’s lifecycle.
