Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said the Tamil Nadu Section of the Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway (BCE) is likely to be over by August 2025.
Speaking during the winter session of the Lok Sabha, Gadkari apprised in detail about the progress of the 261.70 km-long expressway project that comprises a 105.70 km stretch in Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of Rs 7,525 crore.
The expressway is being designed from Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu to Gudipala in Andhra Pradesh in four bundles.
The project includes an interchange for the trumpet of Irungattukottai while connecting the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway (NH-48).
According to NHAI, bulk work is over, as the widening of the 24 km Gudipala to Walajahpet stretch is already 72 percent oversubscriptions, the 24.5 km length from Walajahpet to Arkkonam is 86 percent complete, the Al Arkakonam to Ochepuram 25 kilometers five is 52 percent, and the 32.1-kilometer long stretch from Kancheepuram to Sriperumbudur is a total of 65 percent already complete. According to Daily Thanthi, the works in Gudipala (AP)-Walajahpet, Walajahpet-Arakkonam, and Arakkonam-Kancheepuram stretches are likely to be completed by March 2025.
Work is in full swing at the trumpet interchange at Irungattukottai, which started construction in February 2023 and is slated for completion by August 2025 with 15 percent of the work completed so far.
