At the Rising NorthEast Investors Summit on May 23, 2025, Reliance Industries Ltd, led by Chairman Mukesh Ambani, announced a major investment of ₹75,000 crore in India’s North Eastern states. This investment will support a wide range of projects including the development of 350 biogas plants, growth in telecom and retail, and clean energy expansion.
Mukesh Ambani said the company will also set up factories to produce high-quality consumer goods and build a 150-bed cancer hospital in Manipur, aiming to improve healthcare in the region.
He noted that Reliance has already spent around ₹30,000 crore in the North-East over the past 40 years. Now, in just the next five years, the company plans to more than double that amount.
This investment is expected to create over 2.5 million job opportunities, both directly and indirectly, benefiting the region’s 45 million residents.
Ambani also shared six commitments with the Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.
Reliance Jio, the group’s telecom arm, has already brought 5G services to 90% of the region’s population, with over five million users. “We plan to double that this year,” he said. “Jio will focus on bringing the benefits of Artificial Intelligence to every school, hospital, business, and home in the region.”
He added, “When local talent connects with technology and opportunities, the North-East will move forward quickly.”
Reliance Retail will increase its purchase of grains, fruits, and vegetables from local farmers, helping boost their incomes. It will also open local manufacturing units for consumer products and promote the region’s unique handcraft traditions.
In the clean energy space, Reliance will expand solar power production in the region.
The company will also build 350 compressed biogas plants that turn organic waste into useful gas. This gas can be used for transportation, industrial fuel, and cooking—turning waste areas into productive land.
The Reliance Foundation, the group’s charity arm, has opened a 150-bed cancer hospital in Manipur. They are also working with Mizoram University to study breast cancer using gene data and have set up a large diagnostics and research lab in Guwahati.
“Our goal is to help make the North-East a leader in healthcare and scientific research,” Ambani said.
He also praised the region’s talent in sports and announced that Reliance Foundation will work with all eight states to build Olympic training centres to support young athletes.
“For Reliance, it’s an honour to help a region full of young energy and rapid growth potential,” he said.
Addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ambani added, “You’ve made the impossible happen. You’ve brought the North-East into the heart of India’s development journey.”
“With your leadership, we will work with all the Chief Ministers to make the North-East a role model for the world—showing how growth can respect nature, bring wealth to every home, and ensure every citizen is embraced with care and opportunity.”
