Vande Bharat Express Crosses 3 Crore Passengers, Travels Distance Equal to 310 Earth Circuits Since Launch

Launched on 15 February 2019, Vande Bharat Express has completed 35,428 journeys and served over 3.17 crore passengers, becoming a vital part of India’s modern rail network.

As of 20 August 2024, the Vande Bharat Express fleet has covered a distance equivalent to 310.7 rounds of the Earth on 54 trains.

The extensive network of these trains covers over 280 districts across 24 states and union territories, reflecting their efficiency and reach.

The portfolio of Vande Bharat Express is growing and new services are being introduced, said A Sridhar, chief public relations officer, of South Central Railway.

“The indigenously designed Vande Bharat trains under the Make in India initiative are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, offering both luxury and efficiency to millions of passengers,” Sridhar told the Times of India. Indian Railways’ latest features, reduced travel time and world-class amenities have set new benchmarks in travel.”

These trains are equipped with intelligent braking systems, automatic doors, GPS-based passenger information systems, and bio-vacuum toilets. Notably, the regenerative braking system used in these trains saves electrical energy by up to 30 percent, making these trains committed to environmental sustainability.

The trains also feature executive class coaches with rotating ergonomic seats, among other innovations, that enhance passenger comfort and convenience.

“With Vande Bharat Express, Indian Railways is set to redefine passenger experience, offering unmatched speed, safety, and comfort,” Shridhar said. “Indian Railways has made this service a symbol of its progress.”

The success of Vande Bharat Express has not only showcased the achievements of the “Make in India” campaign but has also set new world standards for rail travel in terms of safety, speed, and service.
