Austria’s Strabag has awarded a contract to replace the Uttrichshausen viaduct on the A7 motorway in the German federal state of Hessen.
The actual value of the contract has not yet been disclosed, but Strabag said it is “in the below three-digit million range.”
Work will begin in August 2024 and it will completed by the end of 2029.
The A7 is Germany’s longest federal motorway, spanning 962 km. The Utrichshausen bridge is south of Fulda on the A7. By 2030, the viaduct will be used by 51,000 motor vehicles daily.
Overall the contract involves the removal of two existing structures, 880 metres long and about 30 metres wide, and the construction of a new replacement structure. The bridges were built between 1966 and 1968, and are very old, so they are being replaced with a new, modern bridge.
The new bridge is being built with a length of 900 meters. The two-component structures will be built in the same location as the current structure and will have five-metre-high noise barriers and noise-reducing road surfaces installed on either side.
The construction of modern bridges is essential for the development of our infrastructure. “We are therefore proud to be able to apply our expertise to this important super-regional transport axis on the A7 motorway,” said Klemens Haselsteiner, CEO of Strabag.
