The Indian Railway Board aims to add 1,000 general coaches to 370 trains by the end of November. The move is aimed at facilitating one lakh passengers every day.
The board said that 583 of these coaches have already been deployed in various trains. A senior Railway Board official said, “The process of adding the remaining coaches is going on in all railway zones and divisions and will be completed by the end of this month.”
According to an Economic Times report, an official said that the board has planned to meet the increasing demand for Holi in 2025.
The railway board plans to introduce 10,000 non-AC coaches in the next two years as part of a major long-term initiative. This expansion will facilitate the travel of over eight lakh people every day.
The manufacturing of these coaches is being done at a fast pace at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai and the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala. “Production is going on a war footing to meet the deadline,” the official said.
The 10,000 coaches will be of the LHB category, meeting the railways’ focus on advanced safety equipment and better passenger amenities.
