Honolulu Rapid Transit Awards $1.7 Billion Contract to Tutor Perini for Six New Stations and Guideway

A new rapid transit system in Honolulu, Hawaii, has awarded nearly $1.7 billion in construction work to the US-based contractor Tutor Perini.

Tutor Perini has been selected by the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) to design and construct six railway stations as well as approximately three miles of elevated rail guideway, beginning just east of the existing Middle Street Transit Center Station and ending at the Civic Center Station, which will be situated just east of downtown Honolulu.

Mokauea (Kalihi), Niuhelewai (Honolulu Community College-Kaplama), Kwili (Iwilei), Hlau (Chinatown), Kuloloia (Downtown), and Kakaukukui (Civic Center) are the six new stations that will be added.

Project design will begin as soon as the contract is executed, which is anticipated to take place in the middle of September this

The construction will begin in the second half of 2025, with substantial completion anticipated in 2030.

Tutor Perini’s design subcontractor will be Parsons Corporation.

In the third quarter of 2024, the contract value will be added to the company’s backlog.
